improvisational patchwork
with guest instructor denyse schmidt saturday, august 18th 10am to 4pm with a one hour break for lunch
$300, includes a delicious lunch and a few other surprises!
Alewives Fabrics is thrilled and honored to be hosting Denyse Schmidt this summer for not one, but TWO fabulous workshops! The Wall Street Journal recently called Denyse "Queen of the Neo-Hillbilly Quilt," and while we're not quite sure what that means, we do know the last time she came to town, Denyse's class sold out in record time, and she rocked our world!
Improvisational Patchwork is a hands-on opportunity to learn Denyse’s intuitive design techniques while building a foundation for bringing your own individual style to quilts or other projects. Whether you are an experienced quilter or a beginning crafter, you will create exciting, rut-breaking work that will change the way you think about color, patchwork, and your own creativity.
Rhea says: "I took the Improvisational Patchwork class the last time Denyse came to visit us at Alewives. Those few hours truly changed my entire outlook on quilting. I highly recommend this workshop for quilters of ANY skill level. You are sure to leave the class feeling inspired, rejuvenated, and above-all, excited to go home and keep sewing!"

In this workshop, we'll explore the farthest reaches of improvisational patchwork – and your own creativity – using traditional patterns as a foundation. We'll begin with fun, fast-paced exercises to become completely familiar with a single quilt pattern. Once we internalize its basic structure, we can apply the principles of improvisation to create spontaneous and uniquely individual expressions of a single theme. Some improvisational piecing experience recommended but not required.
