Update: the Liverpool Shirtdress class with Rhea is now full, but please call to be placed on the waiting list.
Sundays, March 14, 21, 28 from 1-4
Best suited to intermediate students who have had some garment making experience. Join Rhea as she helps you make one of Amy Butler's stylish Liverpool Shirtdresses. The Liverpool can be made in one of four lengths: make a shirt, tunic (the most popular length!), short dress or long dress. Choose from any of our quilting weight cottons, one of our new Liberty of London Lawns (re-colored by Kaffe Fassett!) or some of our delicious, buttery new voiles by Anna Maria Horner. The Liverpool can be worn at any time of year: wear in the colder months paired with jeans and a long sleeve shirt or wear in warmer months on its own. Either way you will be effortlessly stylish! This class requires students do some pre-class homework (cutting out their pattern pieces, along with pre-washing and cutting their fabrics). Students will learn french seams, how to cover their own buttons, how to make a button-hole and some of Rhea's other tricks for easier garment-making.
Cost: $45, plus materials

Saturday March 20, 9:30 - 3:30 Suitable for intermediate students
Who knew cotton clothesline could be so glamorous? Students in this class will learn to wrap fabric around clothesline and then use a zig-zag stitch to "sculpt" the wrapped pieces into a lovely purse with handles. The Bali handbag is a natural with batiks but looks great in any fabric combination. Make use of our jelly rolls and Bali pops or ask us to help you pick out your own fabrics.
Cost: $45, plus materials

Saturday March 27, 9:30 - 4:30
Suitable for advanced students and those who possess a basic knowledge of paper-piecing.
Using paper-piecing, students will sew the cutest little baskets you have ever seen! The basics of paper-piecing will be reviewed, and a quick practice block will be sewn just to brush up on technique. Then students will piece a sweet little four-block mini quilt with two borders that will measure 8” square. The embellishment possibilities are endless: try buttons, embroidery, silk ribbon or beads. After the class, frame your new creation or turn into a decorative pillow or pincushion.

Update: at this time, the Virtual Turning Twenty class is full. Please e-mail rhea@alewivesfabrics.com to be placed on the waiting list and please check back again at a later date for our next session!
Starts Sunday, April 4th with a new lesson plan every Sunday through May 23rd
Virtual Turning Twenty is our first ever online course and will consist of a series of visual aids and written instructions leading you through the entire process of making a "Turning Twenty" quilt. Students in the class will be issued a materials list and a secret website address containing one lesson plan each week for eight weeks. The lesson plans will remain online for each student's use, and students will be able to dialog with the instructor and each other via comments on the blog. They will also be invited to contribute photos of their own work. Turning Twenty is aimed at the absolute beginner and makes great use of large blocks that sew together quickly and really show off fabric combinations. Don't be shy if you have never quilted before, because we like our students unspoiled! You should, however, be comfortable with the basic functions of your machine (threading the top machine, winding the bobbin, etc.). This class is perfect for anyone living far away from a shop, anyone with small children who need to fit in their crafting when they can, anyone who is strapped for time, and perfect for anyone who wants a good value for their money. At half the price of one of our "In-person" classes, Virtual Turning Twenty is a great deal!
Cost: $30, plus materials To sign up for this class, please call us at 207 563 5002 or send an e-mail to rhea@alewivesfabrics.com (For your own safety, please do not send credit card numbers through an e-mail: I will see your e-mail and reply!)

Saturday April 17th, 9:30 - 4:30 ***Date of this class has been moved back to April due to the power outages on February 27th***
Suitable for advanced students or students who have already taken one of Leslie’s workshops.
Does any block seem more traditional than the Ohio Star? This workshop will feature an emphasis on tiny quarter-square triangles. Students will make 3” and 1 1/2” Ohio Star blocks. Each participant will design and create a mini quilt, suitable for framing, using the blocks made during class.
